MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer (7-4-4 overall, 3-3-1 Big Ten) will play its final game of the regular season on the road in Columbus, Ohio against Ohio State on Sunday at Noon (CT). Live statistics links will be available on UWBadgers.com and live updates on Twitter (@BadgerMSoccer). Sunday's match against the Buckeyes will be streamed live on www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com.
1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin traveled down I-94 to play in-state rival Milwaukee on Tuesday night. Wisconsin and Milwaukee played to a double overtime draw, 0-0. The Badgers and Panthers fought through 110 minutes and played pretty evenly as UW trailed shots 15-12 and shots on goal 7-5. UW leads the all-time series with Milwaukee, 19-13-8 and have gone 8-1-4 in their last 13 matchups.
2. AN EVEN HISTORY: Wisconsin and Ohio State are pretty even in the 34 games played between the two Big Ten powerhouses. The Buckeyes lead the Badgers by a slim margin, 17-14-3. Despite the lead Ohio State has in the record books, Wisconsin bests the Buckeyes in total goals, leading the series with 48 goals for and only 42 against.
3. SCOUTING OHIO STATE: Ohio State is 7-7-1 on the year including a 3-4 record in the Big Ten. Despite the Buckeyes' record in the talent-packed Big Ten, Ohio State is a couple lucky breaks away from being a top contender in the best conference in college soccer. Ohio State has beaten Wright State, Northwestern, Penn State, and Rutgers – all teams the Badgers have seen and beaten. The Buckeyes also lost to perennial powerhouse Maryland, 1-0, this season – the same margin that defeated Wisconsin.
4. WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR?: Wisconsin and Ohio State met a year ago for a season-closing match at the McClimon Complex that ended in 2-1 fashion in favor of Wisconsin. The Badgers walked off the pitch with no intention of seeing the Buckeyes again, much less the very next game and first game of the Big Ten tournament. If there was any doubt who was the better team after the first match, all doubt was washed away with Wisconsin's convincing 3-0 first-round win over the Buckeyes.
5. NOW WHAT?: Wisconsin closes out the regular season against the Buckeyes before turning its attention to the Big Ten tournament. The tournament will start on Nov. 4-5 – depending upon seed – and continue until Nov. 12 when the Big Ten Championship will be played.
