Wisconsin boasts offensive player and goalie of the month
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's hockey sophomores Abby Roque and Kristen Campbell earned WCHA player of the month honors for September and October, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Roque, the WCHA leader in points and assists, was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Month while Campbell, the NCAA leader in goals-against average, claimed WCHA Goaltender of the Month.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Roque has enjoyed a stellar start to the 2017-18 season with a league-high 16 points off four goals and a league-best 12 assists. Two of her four goals this year have been game-winning efforts to help No. 1 UW to a 12-0-0 start, its second-best start in school history.
Her +15 plus/minus rating not only leads the WCHA, but also leads the country, while her .612 faceoff percentage ranks third in the league among skaters that have at least 50 faceoff attempts this year.
Roque has also been stellar on the power play, as her five power-play points are tied for the WCHA lead.
Campbell has enjoyed a record start as she became the first goaltender in school history to begin her UW career with a 12-0-0 record.
A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Campbell leads all NCAA Division I goaltenders in goals-against average with a 1.00 clip, while her .946 save percentage ranks second in the WCHA and fifth among NCAA Division I netminders. Her winning percentage of 1.000 is the best mark in the league, while her three shutouts rank second.
The former UND goaltender has been honored as the league's defensive player of the week twice, including this past weekend after she led UW to a sweep of No. 6 Minnesota.
The Badgers return home this weekend to host No. 4 Ohio State in a two-game series at LaBahn Arena. Puck drop on Saturday is set for 2 p.m. while Sunday's series finale begins at noon
