1. RUNNING WELL AT REGIONALS: UW is coming off of a third-place showing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals as UW was only six points off runner-up Michigan State. Sarah Disanza took fourth in of 20 minutes, 43.9 seconds while Amy Davis was ninth in 20:53.2. Junior Shaelyn Sorensen was 13th in 20:54.2 while Alicia Monson and Alissa Niggemann were 31st and 36th, respectively. Disanza, Davis and Sorensen all earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region Honors for their top-25 showing at the regional competition.Â
2. BACK TO THE 'VILLE: Saturday's NCAA championships marks the second trip to Louisville for the Badgers as UW finished second at the Greater Louisville Classic at the end of September. Amy Davis led the way for UW with an 11th-place finish on the 5K course while Sarah Disanza was 12th and Alicia Monson was 20th.
3. DAZZLING DISANZA: In her final cross country campaign, Sarah Disanza, the Badgers' captain, has been stellar as she's led UW at both postseason meets. The Wantage, New Jersey, native was eighth at the Big Ten championships, helping UW earn a third-place finish before her fourth-place showing at regionals. A three-time All-American, Disanza looks to become the first Badger in a decade to earn multiple All-America honors in cross country.
4. WE SEE YOU, SHAELYN: Shaelyn Sorensen earned her second USTFCCCA All-Region honor last Friday thanks to her 13th-place showing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. A native of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, Sorensen has many experiences racing the course in Louisville as she finished 93rd at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships while competing as an individual. Saturday's race will mark the fourth time that Sorensen will compete at E.P Tom Sawyer State Park.
5. WE GOT NEXT: The NCAA cross country championships are coming to Madison next fall as the Badgers will host the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. UW has hosted five NCAA Great Lakes Regionals, the 2010 Big Ten Cross Country Championship and the annual Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Amour, the premier regular-season meet in the nation. It marks the first time since 1978 that Wisconsin will host the national cross country meet as the school hosted the men's cross country championship at Yahara Hills Golf Course.
