MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team is on an absolute tear in the postseason, going undefeated in five-straight games. The Badgers' next challenge lies in the NCAA tournament round of 32, where they will face No. 12 Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana at Alumni Stadium at 5 p.m. CT on Sunday. The game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra and links for live statistics and tickets are available on UWBadgers.com.
1. ONE TO REMEMEBER: After Tom Barlow evened the playing field at 1-1 off a penalty kick late in the first half, the Badgers used that momentum to UIC off in the second half and add three more goals for themselves. Mike Catalano, Mitch Guitar and Barlow once again, found the back of the net to lead UW to victory. Senior All-American Chris Mueller notched two assists on the night. The win marked the first time this senior class has won an NCAA tournament game.
2. THERE IS NOTHING WE DO BETTER THAN REVENGE: The Badgers avenged themselves in every rematch with an opponent they lost to earlier in the season in the postseason. UW has now moved past Maryland, Michigan, Indiana and UIC.
3. DANCE, DANCE: Wisconsin's continuation in the NCAA tournament marks the fifth time in school history that the Badgers have advanced to the round of 32.
4. KING OF THE ASSIST: Chris Mueller's 17 assists ranks No. 1 in the country and the Big Ten, also holding the top spot in assists-per-game (.89). He now has 32 career assists.
5. WE'VE GOT HISTORY: Wisconsin leads the all-time series 8-2-3 with Notre Dame and 4-2-1 in South Bend. The last time the two teams faced was in the NCAA tournament in 2013, the Badgers' last NCAA appearance, where the Irish came out with a 4-0 victory. Before that game, the Badgers had gone unbeaten against Notre Dame in its last seven contests dating back to 1988. During that stretch, UW had only allowed two goals by the Irish.
BONUS – SCOUTING THE IRISH: No. 12 seed Notre Dame earned a bid to the tourney for the 20th time in program history and 16th in the past 17 seasons behind an 11-6-2 season. Most recently, the Fighting Irish took down No. 3 North Carolina 2-1 in the ACC Championship Quarterfinal but then fell 2-1 in the semifinals to No. 17 North Carolina. Wisconsin and Notre Dame faced four of the same teams including, Michigan, Northwestern, Indiana and Duke. UW went 3-3 against that field while ND went 2-1-1.
