MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer (9-4-4 overall, 4-3-1 Big Ten) will get the week to prepare for this Friday's semifinal match against No. 1-seed Michigan (12-4-2, 6-1-1 Big Ten). The match will be played at 11 a.m. (CT), and broadcast on the Big Ten Network as well as BTN2Go. Live statistics will be available on UWBadgers.com and live updates will be posted to Twitter (@BadgerMSoccer).
1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin did something it has never done before: beat Maryland. Wisconsin was 0-7 in school history against the Terrapins heading into Sunday's game but the Badgers shocked Maryland in front of their home crowd with an 87th-minute silencer from senior Mark Segbers off a pass from senior Chris Mueller.
2. HONOR US: Wisconsin garnered three well-deserved honors from the Big Ten Conference last week. Chris Mueller headlined the group and was named the 2017 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. Mark Segbers and Isaac Schlenker also put their names in the history books. Segbers collected a spot on the All-Big Ten second team while Schlenker was honored with the Sportsmanship Award.
3. SCOUTING MICHIGAN: Michigan has been nothing but impressive in its 2017 campaign. The Wolverines hold a 12-4-2 overall record as well as a pristine 6-1-1 record in one of the best conferences is college soccer. Michigan collected a huge win over then-No. 9 Maryland, 2-1, to close out its regular season. The Wolverines also picked up a key tie in a match against the Hoosiers that ended, 1-1, after two overtime periods.
4. WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME?: The Badgers traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for a Big Ten contest at the U-M Stadium that ended in favor of the Maize and Blue. The Wolverines were quick to tally two first-half goals in the regular season contest. The Badgers came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and slotted a goal to cut the deficit to a single goal. However, Wisconsin's efforts weren't enough and the match ended, 2-1.
5. PRIMED FOR THE POSTSEASON: Wisconsin will face Michigan in the second round of the Big Ten tournament. If the Badgers advance, they will play the winner of No. 2-seeded Indiana and No. 6 Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship.
