Wellhausen chats with the seniors about their favorite memories

Happy Friday Badger Fans!

I hope you all are having a great first full week of February. The Badgers are back in Madison ready for a busy weekend.

Last weekend the Badgers swept Bemidji State out in the tundra of northern Minnesota. Friday's game resulted in a 6-1 win. Abby Roque and Emily Clark scored two goals each, crushing the game that day. Sam Cogan and Sydney McKibbon tallied goals as well.

Saturday's game presented a greater challenge, as the Badgers and Beavers battled back and forth with scoring. However, the Cardinal and White prevailed, thanks to clutch-superstar Emily Clark scoring yet ANOTHER two goals, alongside goals by Annie Pankowski and Mekenzie Steffen.

Baby Badger Abby Roque's outstanding performance earned her third WCHA Rookie of the Week honors. I asked the freshman what she thought of the weekend.

"I think last weekend we did a good job moving the puck and not getting down on ourselves," she reflected. "We were down a goal in the second game but we just kept pushing to get the win. Going into this weekend I think we need to work our hardest. Duluth is a good team so we need to come out playing our best!"

Well said, Ab! Congrats on all of your accomplishments! Proud liney right here.

I would like to give another shoutout to Maddie Rolfes, Sophia Shaver, Jenny Ryan, Annie Pankowski, and Lauren Williams for receiving WCHA Scholar Athlete honors. Way to put the "student" in "student-athlete" guys!

This weekend the Badgers are back at home, ready to take on Minnesota Duluth in a two-game series Saturday and Sunday. This weekend marks the last regular season home games for the Badgers, and the senior class will be recognized before Sunday's puck drop.

In honor of Senior Weekend, I asked the senior class to recall some of their favorite Badger memories. Here's what they said:

Sydney McKibbon:
"I think my favorite Badger memory was this year playing in front of over 15,000 fans at Fill the Bowl. It was incredible to be a part of that atmosphere and something I will never forget!"

Sarah Nurse:
"One of my favorite memories was definitely winning the regular season championship at home last year on senior night. It was an amazing crowd and something that I hope to do again this weekend!"

Mellissa Channell:
"I would have to say playing in two Fill the Bowl games. Not many people can say they were a part of history twice by breaking a record. It just goes to show how much support our fans and community shows to us."

Jenny Ryan:
"I would have to say winning WCHA Tournament title at Minnesota last year."

Ann-Renee Desbiens:
"Definitely Fill the Bowl."

Mikayla Johnson:
"One of my favorite memories was our team trip to Vail, Colorado. I go there every summer with my family but getting the chance to experience it with my team was one I will never forget! The scenery, the laughs and the time we shared there was incredible!"

On behalf of the rest of the team, I want to thank you girls for being such amazing leaders to us all. We couldn't thank you enough! Can't wait to continue to make more memories with you all. We love you!

Saturday's game will be at 2:07 p.m. and Sunday's game will be at noon. We hope to see you there!

On Wisconsin!
