AMES, Iowa – Six different Badgers set personal bests for the Wisconsin men's track and field team during the final day of the Iowa State Classic on Saturday at the Lied Recreation Center.
Wisconsin had a strong showing in the men's mile run, with four participants in the event.
Oliver Hoare and
Joe Hardy each set new personal bests, coming in third and fourth, respectively. Hoare came in with a time of 4:05.08 while Hardy cross the line at 4:05.15. Senior
McKena Ramos finished near the middle of the pack with a run of 4:13.71 and freshman
Ryan Clevenger set a new personal record with a time of 4:15.97.
In the 400 meters, senior
Ryan Davis put together his best run of the year, placing third in 47.19. Teammate
Corbin Ellis rushed past his old previous best with a time of 48.30 to finish in 12th.
Alex Teague continued his fine meet in Iowa with another personal best, finishing in 20th place with a time of 48.82.
Brandon Mortensen delivered an exciting performance in the 60 meter hurdles, qualifying for the finals of the event with a time of 8.13, finishing in second place during the round. Sophomore
Trent Nytes had a time of 8.47, recording his best performance of the indoor season.
Sophomore Eric Brown also set a personal record, placing 17th in the 800 meters with a run of 1:49.99. Junior
Cooper Barth almost broke his own PR in the event, finishing in 1:53.50.
Over in the high jump, freshman
Zach Lorbeck ended his meet with a distance of 6 feet, 4 3/4 inches (1.95 meters) while senior
Brandon Mortensen tied his mark from last week with the same length as Lorbeck.Â
Riley Budde threw 55-0 1/4 (16.77m) in the shot put one day after nearly winning the weight throw competition. Fellow Badger
Josh McDonald hit the distance of 54-5 1/4 (16.59m) in the event.
The Badgers return for their final indoor home meet of the season with the first-ever Wisconsin Shell Shocker on Friday at the Shell. Field events start at 3 p.m. while running events begin at 5 p.m. for UW's final regular season home meet of the year.
