JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Senior
Brooke Ferrell collected her fifth top-10 finish of the year as the Wisconsin women's golf team jumped up one spot to claim 12th place at the Briar's Creek Invitational.
"Today was a bit like yesterday in that it was still windy and we were really good in stretches but couldn't put it all together," UW head coach
Todd Oehrlein said. "We had some great holes and looked pretty consistent throughout some parts of the day, but we slipped up at a few holes."
Ferrell (72-73-70=215) saved her best round of the tournament for last by firing a 2-under 70 to finish in a tie for eighth. The result marked her 15th top-10 finish as a Badger.
At 3-over, junior
Gabby Curtis (73-72-74=219) tied for 22nd after shooting a 2-over 74 in the final round to record her fourth top-25 finish of the season.
Senior
Michelle Cheung (74-73-76=223) recorded a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 43rd. Both sophomore Nat Zeng (73-83-79=235) and junior
Becky Klongland (78-80-77=235) tied for 81st at 19-over.
At 15-under, Florida captured the team title, followed by Campbell (+3), Illinois (+4), Miami (+6) and Auburn (+7) to round out the top-five. Michigan State took sixth at 8-over while Texas Tech and Ohio State tied for seventh at 14-over. Louisville (+15), North Carolina (+18) and East Carolina (+18) edged the Badgers (+23), but Wisconsin's final round surged the Badgers past Boston College (+28) to claim 12th out of the 18-team field.
"We were up against a great field at a great golf course," Oehrlein said. "The course is very demanding, so we can learn a lot from this tournament especially as we head into the end of the year."
Next up, the Badgers will travel to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, to compete in their final tournament before the Big Ten Championship. The Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational will take place at the El Tigre Golf Cub from April 2-4.
