MADISON, Wis. – Niya Beverley, a 5-7 guard from Laurel, Maryland, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play women's basketball at the University of Wisconsin, head coach
Jonathan Tsipis announced on Friday.
"We are very excited to have Niya Beverley join our women's basketball family for the 2017-18 season," Tsipis said. "Niya lead St John's College High School (Washington D.C.) to a No. 3 national ranking in the espnW poll this past season and competed on the national stage with her AAU team, Fairfax Stars EYBL.Â
Â
"She is a quick, explosive guard that can get in the lane to create for herself and others. She also is an elite on the ball defender. I have known Niya and her family since she was a freshman and we are excited to see her continue her athletic and academic career as a Badger."
Â
Beverley averaged 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals as a senior for St. John's, which won the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and city championships, under head coach Jonathan Scribner. The Cadets were 31-2 in 2016-17 with Beverley earning all-tournament honors in the Nike Tournament of Champions, Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, Washington, DC area and the Northwest Newspaper. She scored 1,000 pts in her career.
