One boat advances at Knecht Cup amidst inclement weather

Majority of races rescheduled for Sunday

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. — The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team was able to complete just one race before inclement weather conditions suspended all afternoon events at the annual Knecht Cup, Saturday on Mercer Lake.

Although all but one event Wisconsin was scheduled to participate in were postponed until Sunday due to rain, UW competed in one openweight race, advancing to the semi-finals.

"The team handled the adversity well," said head coach Dusty Mattison. "A really big thing we've been working on is going with the flow, having fun and staying relaxed and they did that despite the conditions."

Wisconsin's varsity lightweight eight boat took second place out of five boats in the varsity eight event with a final time of 6:50.06, coming in just behind the Stanford lightweights.

"It was our first time seeing Stanford all year," said Mattison. "We were happy with how we executed. The team had fun and has more to give tomorrow."

The Badgers hit the water again early Sunday morning, where Wisconsin will compete in the three rescheduled events it missed Saturday along with the varsity eight semifinal.

The second varsity eight start the day off with their make-up race at 6 a.m. (CT), followed by three boats competing in the lightweight eight event at 6:30 a.m. (CT).

The novice eight will complete the trio of rescheduled races at 7:30 a.m. (CT) with the varsity eight semifinal scheduled for 8:30 a.m. (CT).
