COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Wisconsin softball team rallied back in late innings to clinch the series and defeat Maryland, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
Senior
Chloe Miller and sophomore
Stephanie Lombardo paved the way for the Badgers (31-14 overall, 10-11 Big Ten), recording two hits apiece against the Terrapins (11-37-1, 4-18).
The Badgers clawed their way back in the tops of the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly from
Melanie Cross scoring
Brianna Flugaur brought the Cardinal and White within one, 3-2. UW tied up the game and forced a pitching change in the top of the sixth with four consecutive hits. After Miller and junior
Brooke Wyderski found the perfect gaps, senior
Sara Novak followed suit and put an RBI single of her own to left field, scoring Miller to tie the game at 3-3.
Lombardo's single up the middle drew in both
McKenna Heim (pinch running) and Wyderski to capture the 5-3 lead.
UW ignited excitement in the top of the fourth inning after falling behind 2-0 when
senior
Chloe Miller tripled down the left-field line and then was brought in by Wyderski to cut the Terrapins' lead to 2-1. However, a Maryland home run in the bottom of the fourth gave them a two-run advantage (3-1).
Both teams were quiet through the first two and a half innings with Maryland putting in the only hit of the game until the Terrapins unleashed two crucial hits in the bottom of the third inning. Kassidy Cross led off the third frame with a single to shallow left field before Jordan Aughinbau hit a home run over the left field wall to give UM the 2-0 lead.

Details from the Dugout:
"That was such a big win for the team. To see
Kirsten Stevens come in and get the win, it's fun to have seniors come in and play well the last weekends of the season. For her to get a win to win the series on the road is such a big deal.
Sara Novak, she and
Brooke Wyderski led the way and stepped up to hit the ball hard.
Chloe Miller swung the bat hard today too, it helps to have that spark from the senior class."
