Badgers outlast Nittany Lions, 1-0

MADISON, Wis. – It only took 13 minutes for Wisconsin men's soccer to take a 1-0 victory over Big Ten foe Penn State after senior Tom Barlow put in his fourth goal of the season and the third time in front of a home crowd this season.

Barlow used a perfect serve from Chris Mueller and Elan Koenig and rocketed it in after going quite the length.

The Badgers outshot Penn State 19-18, putting five on net. Wisconsin goalkeeper Philipp Schilling saved all seven shots on goal he faced.

Up Next: Wisconsin returns to the McClimon Complex on Sept. 26 to face Wright State at 7 p.m. CT. The Badgers then hit the road to take on Rutgers on Oct. 1 at 2:30 p.m. CT, live on the Big Ten Network.

"At the end of the day, you would like to play great soccer all the time. We got our goal, we defended very well. We were still tired from that Tuesday game, being down a man on the road against Duke. As I told the guys, in the eight years I've been here, this was one of the best games I've been involved in. They found a way to win the game. Sometimes that's all that matters in sports: that you can find a way to win the game. Compliment to Tommy, that was a great goal. We weren't at our best tonight but the best teams find a way to win when they're not at their best.

Things are getting tougher within the conference. There were some ties over the weekend, so everyone is jumbled on points. Wright State will be a tremendous challenge. They are an excellent team from the Horizon League. They're having a very good season and we will have to be our best on Tuesday night."
