LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Thanks to a trio of runners in the top 20, the Wisconsin women's cross country team finished second at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Saturday morning.

Amy Davis led UW thanks to an 11th overall resultwith a time of 16 minutes 53.68 seconds in the 5K run. Sarah Disanza followed with a 12th place finish overall and a time of 16:54.11 in her first race of the season.

Alicia Monson was the third finisher for UW with a time of 17:07.15, which gave the sophomore a 20th-place showing.

In her first race of the season, junior Shaelyn Sorenson finished in 24th overall and was the fourth Badger to cross the finish line with a time of 17:11.04.

Erin Wagner rounded out the top five for UW with an overall finish in 42nd place and a time of 17:25.68.

"Our team learned a lot from the race today," UW assistant coach Jill Miller said. "We got jumped off the starting line and had to battle through to get back into a decent position. I'm proud of the way they stayed calm and pulled each other through."

Wisconsin finished the day with a team score of 101 points, while Boise State won the meet with a score of 74 points.

"Our sport is about the team score and at the end of the day, we were second, beating some very good teams," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "We were slow off the line and dug a huge hole for ourselves early in the race and had a lot of ground to make up. Amy, Sarah, Alicia and Shaelyn were good enough for a big charge over the last 2K and I felt that Erin Wagner and Alissa Niggemann were very solid and had huge contributions to the effort."

Wisconsin returns to the Zimmer Championship Course on Friday, Oct. 13, for the ninth annual Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational presented by Under Armour. The race will start off with a women's 6K "B" race at 11 a.m. and a men's 8K "B" race at 11:40 a.m. The championship races will follow at 12:20 and 1 p.m. and all four races can be seen live on FloTrack.
