MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team (1-0-2) kicks off the conference season this weekend at Michigan (2-0-1). Friday's match will be streamed live through BTN Plus while fans can also find live statistics on UWBadgers.com and live updates on Twitter (@BadgerMSoccer).
1. SCOUTING MICHIGAN: Wisconsin and Michigan opened Big Ten play together last year when UW came away with the 2-1 double overtime victory at McClimon. The Wolverines started the season with victories against William & Mary and Cleveland State, while tying Valparaiso 1-1. Michigan finished the 2016 season with a 4-11-4 record. The Badgers will travel to Ann Arbor this time around to face first-team All-Big Ten junior Francis Atuahene, All-Big Ten freshman team member Jack Hallahan and the rest of the Wolverines. Atuahene led the Wolverines in shots (71), goals (8) and points (20) last year.
2. LOOKING BACK: The Badgers clinched their first victory of the season in front of their home crowd at McClimon Soccer Complex. Wisconsin defeated Grand Canyon, 3-1, behind goals from seniors Chris Mueller, Mark Segbers and Mike Catalano. Mueller looked sharp in his first home appearance, accounting for six of the Badgers' 14 shots.
3. MARK TO THE RESCUE: Mark Segbers, a UW senior, leads the Big Ten Conference and ranks 16th in the country with his two assists this year and 17th for assists per game.
4. CHRIS CAN: Senior Chris Mueller ranks third in the Big Ten with an average of 3.33 shots per game. He has 10 total shots this season, with six in just the third game of the year.
5. GETTING CATTY: Senior Mike Catalano leads the Big Ten with 0.67 goals per game and two goals in just three games played. He is just two shy of his season high of four goals from 2016.
