BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Led by middle distance ace sophomore Eric Brown, the No. 7 Wisconsin men's cross country team finished fourth at the Illinois State Invitational on Friday at the Weibring Golf Course.
Brown, a 2016 and 2017 NCAA West Preliminary Round qualifier in the 800 meters, finished the 8K race in 19th with a time of 25 minutes, 45.4 seconds.
Right behind Brown was junior Zack Benning, who finished 20th in 25:45.6 while Tannor Wagner continued his success during his freshman campaign with a 21st-place finish thanks to a time of 25:45.8.
Senior Troy Smith was right behind Brown, Benning and Wagner, taking 22nd in 25:45.9 while sophomore Ryan Clevenger finished 33rd.
After opening the season on the road with a pair of meets, UW returns home to the Zimmer Championship Course for the 2017 Wisconsin Mayflower Day Open on Sept. 16. The meet starts at 11 a.m. and admission is free.
