Five Badgers record personal bests in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team enjoyed a strong first day at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational as five different Badgers earned collegiate personal best marks on Friday.
 
The Badgers dominated the pole vault event, sweeping the top-two spots. Sophomore Rashid Coulibaly won the event and teammate senior Tim Guthrie took the runner-up spot, both with marks of 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches (5.04 m).
 
Sophomore Tucker Wedig put forth a spectacular performance in the weight throw, recording a personal-best mark with a toss of 66-4 1/4 (20.22 m) to place third.
 
Also excelling in the field events was freshman Zach Dybul, who took seventh in the men's high jump with a season-best jump of 6-6 3/4 (2.00 m).
 
Trent Nytes put up an impressive performance in the long jump, taking fifth overall with a mark of 23-11 (7.29 m). His jump in Iowa on Friday matched his winning jump at last week's dual against Minnesota.
 
On the track, the duo of senior Corbin Ellis and junior Eric Brown ran almost identical times in the top section of the men's 600 meters. Ellis crossed the finish line in 1 minute 18.87 seconds, and Brown was right behind him in 1:18.88. Brown's 600 meter time marks a new personal best, beating his previous time by almost two full seconds.
 
Freshman Noah Jacobs enjoyed a third-place overall finish in the unseeded 3000 meters, marking his first collegiate race. The Corunna, Michigan native clocked in with a time of 8 minutes, 30.91 seconds.
 
Also putting up a solid performance for the Badgers was junior Alex Teague, who took the runner-up spot in the men's 200 meters with his time of 22.16.
 
The Badgers will be back in action Saturday morning for the remainder of the competition, starting with the women's shot put at 1 p.m. (CT).
