No. 8 Wisconsin hosts Pre-National meet

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 8 Wisconsin women's cross country team will host the Pre-National meet on Saturday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
The meet is scheduled to begin with the women's "Cardinal" 6K race at 10:00 a.m. (CT) with the women's "White" 6K race, which features the Badgers, to follow at 10:45 a.m. The men's "Cardinal" 8K race will begin at 11:30 p.m., followed by the men's "White" 8K race at 12:15 p.m. Rounding out the day will be the women's "Gray" 6K race at 1:00 p.m. with the men's "Gray" 8K race to occur at 1:45 p.m.
There is no spectator parking at the cross country course or University Ridge. Spectator parking will be located at EPIC Systems in Verona.
Spectator shuttles are available to transport spectators for $10 round trip. Accessible shuttles will be available. The shuttle service will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude one hour after the final race has finished.

1. ALICIA'S ACHIEVEMENTS: Alicia Monson's junior cross country season is off to a running start. The Amery, Wisconsin native is undefeated in the two first two meets of the season by winning the Badger Classic and most recently, the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour. FloTrack has Monson ranked as the No. 2 runner in Division 1.

2.EYES ON THE PRIZE: The Badger women come in to Pre-Nationals ranked eighth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country National Coaches Poll. Wisconsin is also ranked eighth on FloTrack as well. They hold steady to first place in the Great Lakes Region and are the top team in the Big Ten Conference in the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll
3. NEWS FROM THE NUTTY: Wisconsin had an excellent showing at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour. Alicia Monson led the way for the Badgers by becoming the first Badger to win the individual title at the race. Amy Davis and Shaelyn Sorensen both finished in the top 30, earning 25th and 27th place finishes, respectively. Alissa Niggemann and Lucina Crouch rounded out the scoring for WU, finishing 69th and 70th at the meet.

4. STRAIGHT FROM THE COACH: "I like where the training is right now. I like the momentum that we have. I like the energy in the locker room. Women's teams are so heavily ridden on a team dynamic and the togetherness factor and making sure that they are all on the same page, building the same way, in it for each other. I'm happy where that is."
5. NEXT STOP, NEBRASKA: The Wisconsin women will compete in their first away race this season on October 28th. The Big Ten Championships will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska with the first race starting at 10:45 a.m. Last season, the Badgers took third in the Big Ten.
