Badgers visit Simpsonville, Ky., for last event of fall season
MADISON, Wis. —  The Wisconsin women's golf team journeys to Simpsonville, Kentucky for their last event of the fall season, the Cardinal Cup, Oct. 20-21 at the U of L Golf Course.
Here are five things to know before the team tees off:
1. Last time out:  Senior Jessica Reinecke turned in her best performance of the season, just one stroke off a career low, shooting a 54-hole total of 213 (-3) to earn a share of 13th place at the Illini Women's Invitational. As a team, Wisconsin finished 10th overall with a score of 871 (+7).
2. Cup Format: This weekend's event hosted by the University of Louisville is 36 holes being played on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday. Tee times start at 8:15 am CT on both days on the par-72, 6250-yard course.
3. The Traveling Badgers: UW will travel Aya Johnson, senior Jessica Reinecke, senior Tess Hackworthy, sophomore Claire Fitzgerald and freshman Tracy Lee. Junior Bobbi Stricker will play as an individual.
4. The Competition:  The Badgers will face host Louisville, Alabama Birmingham, Ball State, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Illinois, Maryland, Murray State, Ole Miss, Richmond, Toledo, UT Chattanooga and Western Kentucky.
5. Thoughts from Coach Oehrlein:Â
"It's an opportunity for us to finish the fall on a positive note. I've seen a lot of improvement in recent weeks, and it has started with doing a better job finding fairways. As a result, we've had ourselves in better position to manage the golf course and create some opportunities. We've also improved around the greens. As the fall has progressed, our putting statistics and scrambling percentages have steadily improved. We'll need this to be a strength of ours as we head into this weekend."
"It's an outstanding and demanding golf course. But it's also a golf course that we are familiar with. It requires patience and excellent execution around the greens. Once again, it's going to be very important for the players to drive the ball well as it sets up the opportunity to manage their approach shots. This has always been a key to playing the golf course well."
