MADISON, Wis. –  For the first time all season, the No. 1 Wisconsin women's hockey team suffered a 1-0 setback to No. 3 Minnesota on Saturday at LaBahn Arena.
 
Wisconsin (8-1-0, 2-1-0-0 WCHA) outshot border-rival Minnesota 27-23, but came up empty in Saturday's contest.
 
After a pair of scoreless periods, Minnesota scored on a power play in the third period to take a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes left.
 
UW generated several chances late in the game, but the Badgers were unable to send the game into overtime. UW outshot the Gophers 12-7 in the final stanza. 
 
Three Notes of the Game

• Redshirt junior Kristen Campbell stopped 22 of the 23 shots she faced in the set back.
• Saturday's defeat marked the first time UW lost at home since suffering a 2-0 loss to Minnesota on Dec. 3, 2016. The Badgers went on to win the series finale, 8-2, on Dec. 4, which was the start of a 35-game home unbeaten streak.
• Senior Annie Pankowski recorded a team high five shots on net.

On the team's performance overall:
"It was a good game. In the early part of the game, Minnesota came out and tried to play fast and quick and it took us a few shifts to adjust but overall it was a really good hockey game; a lot of up and down, a lot of activity, low number of quality scoring opportunities. Both teams defended their areas really well. It comes down to one play and we had a little bit of a break up in our penalty kill and they had a nice shot and that's the difference in the game."
 
On being encouraged with the team's performance:
"I mean, there are a lot of good things. I think after the first five or six minutes I think we settled in and played pretty well after that point. Everybody got an opportunity to contribute and it's a tight game and both teams are defending really well. There weren't a lot of second and third opportunities until the last couple minutes when we pulled our goalie. You have to scratch and claw to try and get a chance and both goalies played well. It was just a good game that came down to one opportunity that somebody took advantage of."
 
On a typical Border Battle:
"They played a lot better than they did last weekend. You knew they were going to come in off a loss and get excited to come down here and play. I thought the speed of the game for both teams was really high, that's probably the fastest game that we've been involved in all year. A lot of good things and a couple things to work on and we'll look at that tomorrow morning and I'm sure tomorrow will be very similar. Both teams played four lines for a good chunk of the game so teams should be well rested and excited for the match up tomorrow afternoon."

On the Border Battle:
"It's Minnesota and Wisconsin, it's always going to come down to one or two bounces that go your way so I think that when we can capitalize on the bounces that go our way it'll be lot better for us in a tight game like that."
 
On UW's play in the third:
"I'm proud of the way we played that third period, as soon as we got rolling we started to show ourselves."
