1. A YEAR AGO: Last year at the Big Ten Championship, all Badger scorers finished in the top 30 in Bloomington, Indiana. Sarah Disanza was the first Badger to cross the finish line in eighth place. Amy Davis, Alicia Monson, and Alissa Niggemann all finished in a row, taking 21st, 22nd, and 23rd respectively. As a team, Wisconsin took third place behind Michigan and Minnesota.
2. PREVIOUSLY AT PRE-NATS: The last time Wisconsin was out on the course, was when they were hosting the Wisconsin Pre-National meet. They placed sixth as a team after deciding to run together. Shaelyn Sorensen was the first Badger to cross the finish line in 32nd place. Sorensen was followed directly behind Alicia Monson, Amy Davis, and Alissa Niggemann.
3. SURVIVAL OF THE FASTEST Five of the top fifteen ranked USTFCCCA teams are set to compete in the conference championship meet this weekend. The Badgers will look to win their first Big Ten Championship since 2000. They are up against tough competition with No. 7 Michigan, No. 10 Indiana, No. 13 Penn State, and No. 14 Michigan State all vying for the title.
"On the women's side, certainly, this is probably the most open Big Ten team race, certainly, that I've seen in the last 11 years. Any one of four or five teams could win the championship and we are certainly one of them," said Mick Byrne, Director of Cross Country and Track and Field.
4. RUNNERS THAT RANK: Wisconsin's Alicia Monson comes into the meet ranked as the No. 3 runner in Division 1 by FloTrack. Monson has had an impressive year so far for the Badgers. She has won both the Badger Classic and the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational and was the first Badger in program history to earn USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors in women's cross country.
5. ONTO REGIONALS: After the Badgers compete in Nebraska, they hit the road again and compete in Terre Haute, Indiana at the 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet. The Badgers took third place in regionals last year with 93 points, finishing behind Big Ten rivals Michigan and Michigan State.
