Miller named HCA National Rookie of the Month

Rearguard paced the country's rookie defensemen in October scoring
MADISON, Wis. – The Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) recognized Wisconsin freshman defenseman K'Andre Miller as the HCA National Rookie of the Month for October, the organization announced on Thursday.
A Minnetonka, Minnesota, native, Miller finished the month tied for third in points among all freshmen in the nation with seven (two goals, five assists), which was two more points than any other freshman defenseman.

Miller scored the Badgers' first goal of the season, the game-winning score in a 3-0 win over Boston College on Oct. 12. He went on to add an assist the following night, when the Badgers completed the series sweep in Madison. The following weekend, Miller recorded the first multi-point game of his career with a goal and two assists in a win at St. Lawrence on Oct. 20.

Returning back to Madison the next weekend, Miller notched another multi-point effort with a pair of assists in a victory over Michigan Tech on Oct. 27. Miller finished the month with a plus-minus rating of +9, earning a share of the national lead among all players. Miller leads all freshmen in the Big Ten in points and assists, while sharing the lead in goals.

Selected with the No. 22 pick in the first-round of the 2018 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers this past June, Miller came to the Badgers from the U.S. National Team Development Program. He skated for the U.S. Under-18 Team last season.

Miller and the 16th-ranked Badgers (4-2-0) visit No. 14 North Dakota (2-2-1) for games on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CT and Saturday at 7 p.m.
