INDIANAPOLIS — Freshmen and sophomores from the Wisconsin men's rowing program rounded out the Badgers' fall campaign with a trip to the Bald Eagle Invitational, placing first in five of eight events Saturday in Indianapolis. 

The Badgers' varsity eight A boat took first in its event, crossing the finish line three seconds ahead of second-place finisher Michigan A with a time of 13 minutes, 33.7 seconds. 

Wisconsin's varsity eight B entry came in fourth in its race, clocking in at 14:10.4. Michigan B won the race in 14 minutes flat. 

The varsity four A won its event in convincing fashion, finishing 18 seconds ahead of runner-up Michigan A and 23 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Minnesota A with a time of 14:49.1. 

Wisconsin's varsity four B, D and C boats each earned top-10 finishes in their event. Wisconsin B crossed the finish line in 15:34 for a fourth-place finish, while UW's D and C boats finished one after another with times of 15:46.2 and 15:47.3 to take sixth and seventh place, respectively. 

Wisconsin's novice eight A and B boats finished first in their respective events. The UW A squad beat out Virginia A by four seconds with a winning time of 14:11.7, while the Wisconsin B boat blew away competition with a 14:38.7 finish, nearly 30 seconds ahead of second-place Michigan B. 

The Wisconsin novice eight C team took second behind Michigan C, registering a 15:28.6 time on the 4.1 kilometer course. 

Wisconsin's four entries in the novice four all placed within the top 10, with the Badgers' A boat taking first place with a time of 15:17.3. UW's B and C boats finished sixth and seventh with times of 16:14.9 and 16:32.9, respectively, and Wisconsin's C team finished in 17 minutes flat to claim ninth place.

"It was freshmen and sophomores only on this trip. The sophomores did well, winning the eight and the four.  The frosh did fine as well, but we still have much to learn about racing. The gap between our better frosh and the varsity times is narrowing, so that's good. At the moment we're a little top heavy with 4-5 guys that seem like they could be varsity contributors right away, but everyone is developing well and results showed it this year. There will be some guys who rise up in the ranks this winter during land training. I anticipate the frosh will make similar strides next year when they come back to this race."
