Four-point weekend leads Badgers to weekend sweep of Michigan State
MADISON, Wis. – Sophomore forward Sean Dhooghe's two-goal, two-assist performance paced the Badgers to a two-game home sweep over Michigan State and jumped Wisconsin into a tie for first place in the Big Ten standings this past weekend. Those numbers were good enough for him to become the Big Ten First Star of the Week.
Â
The Aurora, Illinois, native opened the scoring both nights in similar fashion, scoring 2 minutes, 5 seconds into the game on the power play on Friday, before tallying at 2:36 on the power play on Saturday. Saturday's score proved the game-winning goal in a 3-0 UW victory.
Â
Dhooghe also assisted goals both nights, helping on Friday's game-winning tally and posting the primary assist on Saturday's second goal.
Â
UW's leader with nine goals in 18 games, Dhooghe is tied for second in the nation with six power-play markers on the season. Dhooghe shares third on the Badgers with 14 points.
Â
This marks his second career Big Ten honor after he was named second star on Oct. 23 for his four-goal road trip at Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
Â
This gives the Badgers a second consecutive Big Ten First Star after freshman defenseman K'Andre Miller won the honor last week for his five-point weekend against Penn State. In the six years of Big Ten hockey, this is the first time Wisconsin boasts consecutive Big Ten First Stars of the Week.Â
Â
Both, along with freshman defenseman Ty Emberson, will head to U.S. World Junior Championship training camp in Everett, Washington. Along with 26 others, they look to make the final roster of 23 skaters who will compete at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship that will be held in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
