Miller named Big Ten First Star of the Week

Freshman defenseman becomes first Badger to tally four-point game since October 2016
MADISON, Wis. – Continuing his dominant inaugural season from the blue line, freshman defenseman K'Andre Miller was named the Big Ten First Star after posting a five-point weekend in the Badgers' series against then-No. 6 Penn State. His point totals tied for the conference points lead and ranked second nationally in scoring last weekend.
The 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, Miller tallied an assist in the Badgers' 3-3 tie to Penn State before notching the game-winning goal and dishing out three assists in Wisconsin's 8-5 comeback rout of the Nittany Lions last Saturday.
The rear guard's performance in Saturday's series finale marked his third career multi-point effort and the first four-point game by a UW player since Trent Frederic on Oct. 16, 2016. It also marked the first four-point game for a Badger defenseman since Justin Schultz on Jan. 12, 2012.
Thanks to last weekend's offensive effort, Miller now paces UW scoring with 15 points from three goals and 12 assists. His 15 points also lead Big Ten freshmen, share second nationally among rookies and rank third among all conference blue-liners.
The award marks Miller's first career weekly honor. The Minnetonka, Minnesota, native becomes the first Badger named the Big Ten First Star since goaltender Kyle Hayton received the nod on Oct. 17, 2017.
