MADISON, Wis. – At the first home indoor meet of the season,
Rashid Coulibaly tallied his third pole vault win of the season, putting him in a favorable spot heading into the Big Ten Indoor Championships meet next weekend.
The sophomore broke his personal record in the pole vault at the UW Shell Shocker, clearing a height of 17 feet, 1 3/4 inches (5.23m). His feat moves him up on UW's top-ten list to the fifth-place spot, which also currently ranks sixth overall in the Big Ten Conference.

Coulibaly was not the only Badger to excel in the pole vault, as teammate
Tim Guthrie took the runner-up spot with a mark of 16-2 (4.93m).
Sawyer Smith and
Trent Nytes tied for fifth, both clearing 14-8 1/4 (4.48m), marking a new personal best for Nytes. Sophomore
Zach Lorbeck also competed in the event, taking the eighth place spot with a mark of 14-2 1/2 (4.33m).
Senior
Josh McDonald earned his second win of the season in the shot put on Friday, as he smashed his previous personal best throw with a heave of 61-7 1/2 (18.87m) to claim his victory. That mark ranks No. 4 in the Big Ten Conference and is tied for No. 3 in school history with Jeff Braun.Â

Tucker Wedig earned his first win of the season in the weight throw, also beating his previous personal best toss with a throw measuring 67-9 1/2 (20.66m). Freshmen Dan Ufearo and Tom Reiser also competed unattached in the weight throw. Reiser came in fifth with a mark of 57-7 3/4 (17.57m) and Ufearo finished ninth with a throw of 48-6 (14.78m).

The Badgers also shined in the high jump, sweeping the top four spots in the event.
Zach Lorbeck took the crown with a personal best jump of 6-9 1/2 (2.07m), while
Trent Nytes was the runner-up with the same mark. Sophomore
Isaac Hale took the third place spot, as he cleared a height of 6-6 3/4 (2.00m), and freshman Zach Dybul came in fourth with the same mark.
In the triple jump, it was junior
Zac Webster who won the event with a personal best jump measuring 45-6 1/4 (13.87m).

Led by the distance runners, Wisconsin also dominated on the track. In the mile run, senior
Cooper Barth was the winner with a time of 4:17.53, while teammate sophomore
Ryan Clevenger crossed the line right behind him in 4:19.48.

Freshman Austin Rendon picked up his first collegiate victory at the Shell Shocker in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 1:54.99.

In the 3000 meters, it was the freshmen who led the way. In his first indoor race of the season, Finn Gessner, running unattached, finished in 8:29.86 to take the win. Teammate Noah Jacobs was the runner-up, crossing the line in 8:34.73.

Junior
Alex Teague led the Badgers in the 400 meters with a time of 50.07, earning a runner-up finish. Next for Wisconsin was senior
Kallen Bentz, who crossed the line in 50.16 to take fourth overall. In his first race of the season, sophomore
Ryan Dundun took sixth overall in the event with a time of 50.98.

Freshman Nikholas Parker earned a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 24.21.

Next up is championship season for the Wisconsin men's track and field team as the Badgers head to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio for the 2018 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships. Competition is slated to begin at 9 a.m. (CT) on Friday morning.
