GANGNEUNG, South Korea -- Former Wisconsin standout Hilary Knight notched a goal in Team USA's 5-0 semifinal win over Finland to help the Americans secure a spot in the gold-medal game of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Team USA got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period before scoring three power-play goals in the second and third periods to put the game out of Finland's reach.
Knight, Wisconsin's all-time leading point scorer, put the Americans up 4-0 near the midway point of the second frame after tipping a Sidney Morin shot past Finland goaltender and former Minnesota netminder Noora Raty.
"We put the puck in the back of the net," Knight said following the game. "That's how you win games. To be able to that early was huge."
Former Badger and current U.S. captain Meghan Duggan recorded an assist in the game.
With the win, Team USA advances to its third-straight Olympic gold-medal match against the Canadians.
"This team's ready," Duggan said. "This team is full of passion, energy, excitement. We've worked really hard this tournament, the last four years and our entire lives to put ourselves in a position to go after a gold medal and that's a position we're in right now, so we're excited."
