Senior swims to personal-best time in final race at NCAA meet
MINNEAPOLIS – Victor Goicoechea truly saved his best for last.
Â
Competing in his signature event, the 1650-yard freestyle, the Wisconsin senior raced to a time of 14 minutes, 48.36 seconds — good for a personal best, the second-fastest time in school history and a 19th-place overall finish.
Â
He entered the event seeded 27th, but jumped eight places on Saturday, the final day of the NCAA championships.
Â
The finish concludes what has been a busy weekend for Goicoechea. The senior placed 38th (4 minutes, 18.36 seconds) in the 500 free on Thursday and finished 42nd (1:38.35) in the 200 free on Friday.
