MADISON, Wis. – After finally getting in one game against Rutgers, a 6-3 home-opening victory no less, the Wisconsin softball team is back in action at Goodman Diamond on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. contest against Northern Iowa.
1. KATE THE GREAT: Sophomore Kaitlyn Menz tied as the third-fastest UW pitcher to record 200 career strikeouts on Sunday against Rutgers.
2. SUNDAY FUNDAY: Wisconsin outhit Rutgers 8-4 and retired the first eight RU batters in order. Brooke Wyderski led the team with three hits and two runs.
3. MIDWEEK MADNESS: Last season, the Badgers had several midweek games cancelled and were only allowed to play four midweek tilts. UW had one big midweek one last season, a 10-1 victory over Louisville that turned out to be the first career no-hitter for Kaitlyn Menz.
4. SCOUTING UNI: UNI is 16-12 on the season and 1-4 on the road. The Panthers are on a three-game losing streak after dropping two to Evansville on Sunday.
5. WE'VE GOT HISTORY: UW leads the all-time series with Northern Iowa 4-3 and 3-2 in games in Madison. Wisconsin snapped a three-game losing streak to UNI in 2017, defeating the Panthers 1-0.
