Badgers return to the Midwest
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's golf team travels to Normal, Illinois to compete at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, March 31-April 1, in the Badgers' first event in the Midwest this spring.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:
1. Last Time Out: The Badgers were excellent at last weekend's Hootie Invitational finishing tied for sixth out of 15 teams. UW rode career low rounds from junior Jordan Hahn, sophomore Pete Kuhl and freshman Griffin Barela to tie the second-best 18-hole score in program history, shooting an 11-under par round of 277 in Tuesday's final round.
2. Across State Lines: UW travels south across state lines to Normal, Ill., to play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate hosted by Illinois State University at the Weibring Golf Club. The course was renovated in 2000 through efforts coordinated by PGA Champions Tour Player and ISU Alumnus D.A. Weibring and his company Golf Resources, Inc. The course was renamed in his honor in 2007.
3. The Lineup: Senior Eddie Wajda and sophomore Nick Robinson will join Hahn, Kuhl and Barela in the Badgers' lineup this weekend.
4. The Competition: Wisconsin will face Bradley, Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Detroit Mercy, Drake, Duke, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, UNI, Oakland, Southern Illinois, Valparaiso and Western Illinois.
5. Thoughts from Coach Burcin:
"Looking forward to carrying the momentum from Hootie into this week. The guys are excited to tee it up again"
"It's vital that we continue to make good decisions in adverse weather and not have a setback this weekend. "
