Wisconsin wins fifth straight with 4-3 win over Nittany Lions

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin (11-6, 3-1 B1G) earned a crucial resume-building win on Friday night at Nielsen Tennis Stadium by knocking off No. 44 Penn State (11-8, 1-3 B1G). The 4-3 win improves the Badgers home record to a perfect 10-0 this season.

Sophomore Osgar O'Hoisin continued his late season surge. The Dublin, Ireland, native, improved to a five-match win streak, including two match-clinching wins. His play was no different against the Nittany Lions. He raced out to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Matt Galush to give 50th-ranked Wisconsin a 2-0 lead.

Senior Chema Carranza had no problem finishing right on O'Hoisin's heels, punching the clock with a straight-set win over Penn State's Gabriel Nemeth, 6-3, 6-2.

But it was an unlikely hero who sealed the match for the Badgers at a time when the match seemed to be very much up in the air. Freshman Robert Krill battled to an epic three-set win over Ben Lieb at the No. 6 position to clinch the match for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin earned the doubles point yet again, which turned out to be the deciding factor in the dual match. The No. 4 pair in the country, senior Josef Dodridge and Carranza took care of business once again with an easy 6-1 win over Alp Sentay and Christos Antonopolous.

O'Hoisin and sophomore Daniel Soyfer sealed the deal at the No. 2 spot with a win over Christian Lakoseljac and Matt Galush, 6-3.

Westerman's Wing: "We're doing a lot of the basics. It seems basic and cliché but the basics are hard to do for three hours of a match. Even when we have our dips, we still do the basics well and every single day."

"We have been playing together, playing as team, and when we do that, these matches usually go our way."

Up Next: Wisconsin will return to Nielsen on Sunday for a dual match against the No. 2 team in the country, Ohio State, at noon. Admission is free.
