No. 13 Badgers race past Syracuse and Princeton

UW takes two of three in final regular-season event

Princeton, N.J. -- The No. 13 Wisconsin women's rowing team continues to build momentum as the championship season draws closer, collecting a pair of wins against No. 10 Princeton and Syracuse on Saturday afternoon on Lake Carnegie.

The Badgers secured victories in both the second varsity eight and the varsity four, as well as racing to second place in the varsity eight.

Head Coach Bebe Bryans

"We had a good day today. I'm really proud of this team, all the coaches are really proud of this team. I think we were looking forward to coming here. Clemson was a great race for us to continue to learn and what we needed to do today was solidify what we learned, come in and actually race as opposed to just trying to figure things out. That was our goal for this team today and all three boats came through with that with flying colors.

"The varsity eight had another really really good race on top of the one they had to finish at Clemson. Both the 2V and the four raced at least as well, if not better, than their best race at Clemson. Those two boats did not have their best race in the finals (at Clemson). They showed themselves where they are speed-wise, all three boats did that. I think they proved to themselves that we're a fast team, not just a fast team relative to where we've been in the past. We're a fast team, period.

"We're really excited now to come back and continue to work. This is a mature group so having finals coming up and the stresses that come with that, we're really confident that we're all going to be able to handle that well and go into Big Tens as a strong team.

"Really glad we came out here. Princeton is just an amazing host and you can feel the tradition everywhere you look. It was great to be on this race course and take part in this event. Great thanks to them and Syracuse, the racing was really exciting and we were happy to be a part of it."
