ATHENS, GA. – After winning individual titles at the California Collegiate Open last weekend, Wisconsin women's track and field senior
Brenna Detra and freshman
Sophia Rivera kept their winning streaks going at the Spec Towns Invitational on Friday.
Detra picked up her second straight win this season in the 400 hurdles. Detra crossed the line in 1 minute, 1.62 seconds, a season-best time, to take the crown. Sophomore
Haley Lubow also competed in the event, finishing fourth with a personal best time of 1:03.30.
Just one week after setting the UW school record in the javelin, Rivera came back to win the event again with a throw of 175-1, an inch shy of her record-setting toss. Fellow freshman Annika Cederstrand finished fourth overall with a throw measuring 135-4 (41.24m) while
Andria Savitch finished fifth with a toss of 126-11.
Clearing a season-best height of 13-7 3/4 (4.16m), senior
Taylor Amann earned her second runner-up finish in the pole vault this season. Teammate
Jane McCurry finished seventh, also clearing a season-best height of 12-6, just a fraction of an inch shy of her personal best. Sophomore Rayce Albino cleared the bar set at 12-0 to finish eighth overall in the event.
In the hammer throw,
Haley Showalter took a fourth place finish with a toss measuring 182-5 (55.61m), while teammate
Banke Oginni finished eighth with a personal best throw of 171-0 (52.12m). Oginni's throw cracked the UW top-10 list as the junior now holds top-10 marks in the indoor shot put, weight throw, outdoor shot put and hammer throw.
In the long jump,
Meagan Blair and
Mary Bartelson finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Blair jumped a distance of 18-3 ¼ (5.57m) while sophomore Bartelson jumped a mark of 18-1 3/4 (5.53m).
The second day of the Spec Towns Invitational is slated to start on Saturday at 8 a.m. CT with the 5000 meters, while the first field event is the women's shot put at 10 a.m., but the schedule might be adjusted due to anticipated showers in Athens, Georgia. Â
