SARASOTA, Fla. – The No. 11 Wisconsin women's rowing program saw all three of its crews end up in Saturday's C/D semifinals after the first day of the 2018 NCAA Rowing Championships at Nathan Benderson Park on Friday.

All three boats will look to finish in the top three of their races on Saturday to reach the C final in each event where they can race for places 13-18 on Sunday.

Varsity Eight
After taking fourth in its morning heat to end up in the repechage behind Texas, Ohio State and Brown, and following a weather delay in the early afternoon, the Badgers' top boat placed third behind Virginia and Yale, one spot outside qualifying for Saturday's A/B semifinal. UW was third at 500 meters and stayed in that spot all the way down the course.

The result puts the Badgers into the C/D final, where they will look to finish in the top three to reach Sunday's C final for places 13-18. They will race at 7:12 a.m. CT against Jacksonville, Gonzaga, Syracuse and Northeastern.

Second Varsity Eight
UW's second varsity eight jumped out to an early lead and led through the first 500 meters in its repechage, but Big Ten-champion Ohio State passed them by in the second 500. Then Syracuse found speed to pass the Badgers just past the 1500-meter mark and Wisconsin ended up third and outside a spot for Saturday's A/B semifinal. The boat was in the repechage after taking third behind California and Stanford in its morning heat.

UW will race in Saturday's C/D semifinal with designs on a top-three finish to earn Sunday's C final and race for places 13-18. They will take on Jacksonville, Northeastern, Washington State and Rhode Island in the event at 8:12 a.m.

Varsity Four
In the afternoon repechage, Iowa stormed out to a big lead early, but saw the field make its way back. Washington State overcame the lead by the finish line to win race and take the first spot in the A/B semifinal, but the Badgers ran out of room and finished in third behind the Hawkeyes, outside the A/B semifinal. In the morning, UW was third behind California and Michigan to finish one spot outside a direct qualifying spot to the A/B semifinal. That put UW in the afternoon repechage.

The varsity four will race for a spot in the C final for places 13-18 on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. They will face Rhode Island, Northeastern, Gonzaga and South California and need to finish in the top three to reach the C final.
