Tischke and Malone make up leadership corps
MADISON, Wis. – Senior defenseman Peter Tischke will serve the Wisconsin men's hockey program as team captain for the 2018-19 season, head coach Tony Granato has announced.
The talented rear guard posted two goals and 13 points in 37 games played last season, and boasts five goals and 24 points in 99 career games for the Badgers.
The Hinsdale, Illinois, native is known for his stellar defensive play and toughness on the ice, ranking 11th in the country last season with a 2.14 blocks per game average.
"He's been an outstanding leader since the day we got here," Granato said. "He's a rock-solid defenseman who is going to play a ton of minutes for us. He does everything and has been our most consistent player. He's going to be a great captain."
Joining Tischke in the leadership group is senior forward Seamus Malone, who will begin 2018-19 with 78 points, the most of any current Badger.
Malone, who will serve as the team's lone alternate captain after spending time as one of four alternate captains last year, scored 10 times and finished with 23 points in 36 games last season.
The Naperville, Illinois, native boasts a pair of 10-goal seasons in his time so far at Wisconsin.
"He's one of those guys who always looks out for his teammates," Granato said. "He has great character and is a hard-working guy who is respected by everyone else in the locker room."
This marks the first season since 2008-09 that Wisconsin will enter this year with only two players as captains or alternate captains. That year, Ben Street and Blake Geoffrion spent the season as co-captains.
Wisconsin officially opens its season on Friday, Oct. 12 against Boston College at the Kohl Center.
