Postgame Quotes: Wisconsin vs. Purdue
January 11, 2018
Kohl Center | Madison, Wis.
Wisconsin Head Coach Greg Gard
On if some of the turnovers in the loss were avoidable:
"I've still got to watch the film, but watching it live, yes. I'll have a better vision when we go through the film, dissect it and find out why. We've been so good in that area, and to have that rear its ugly head was disappointing."
On how the game played out and what led to the loss:
"Defensive rebounding and turnovers are two things we pride ourselves on. Like I said, we've been so good in the turnover department. We let them get going early, they had nine of the first 11 points. (Ryan) Clein, (Grady) Eifert and (Carsen) Edwards all got 3s. We rebounded from that, and I thought that even though they hit some shots, we did some decent things defensively on the perimeter after that. You're gonna have a hard time when you turn it over that much and then don't clean up the glass on those ends. So, credit to Purdue for taking advantage of that, but we've got to be a lot better in that regard. We've been pretty solid, specifically in taking care of the ball, so when that transpires, it's unacceptable."
Purdue Head Coach Matt Painter
On the team's overtime victory:
"Obviously this one just about got away from us. [Wisconsin] made a couple big plays. We took an ill-advised shot at the end of regulation. So for us to be able to regroup at that time was tough. I was proud of our guys."
On Ethan Happ:
"We didn't want Happ to get the basketball in the post. We wanted to make it as difficult as we could to keep him out of the post so it would be easier for us to double team him. But that's easier said than done. He is clever and he is so fast for a big guy – probably the fastest big we've played all year. He is so crafty with the ball and he is such a good passer. When he gets it down there and you want to double him, he's just going to find people. So we stayed one-on-one with him, like we've done in the past. He's just a tough cover and I'm glad we don't have to play him again."
