Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

No. 1 Badgers suffer 1-0 setback in Columbus

UW falls for only the second time on the season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite outshooting the Buckeyes 32-20, the top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss to No. 7 Ohio State on Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink.

The Badgers fell midway through the first period as Jincy Dunne scored a power-play goal to give OSU a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin dominated play in the second period, outshooting the Buckeyes 10-3, but were unable to knot the game up.

UW dominated play again in the third, outshooting OSU 13-7, but were unable to beat Buckeye netminder Andrea Braendli, who stopped all 32 of UW's shots.

Three Notes of the Game
    -       This marks the 20th time in 21 games that UW has outshot its opponent.
    -       Wisconsin was called for six penalties on the day, including four in the first period, while the Buckeyes were only whistled for three         infractions.
    -       Junior Kristen Campbell stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced in the defeat.

UW Head Coach Mark Johnson
On the overall game:

"We basically shot ourselves in the foot in the first period. We took four straight penalties and had multiple 5-on-3's. I thought we did a good job killing off penalties in that situation, and they capitalized on one of the power plays, but I felt pretty good getting out of the first period only down one. They did a great job taking away the scoring area from us. We had five or six golden opportunities, but couldn't convert.

"In our first game back in 30-some days and coming in here on a small rink where things happen quickly, I thought our effort was good. We'll watch video tonight and tomorrow and we will look to capitalize on some of our opportunities on Saturday."

Up Next:
