BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --Â
Alicia Monson led the Wisconsin women's track team to an impressive start to the Indiana Relays. The junior out of Amery, Wisconsin, competed in the women's 5000 meters and finished with a personal best time of 15 minutes, 34.53 seconds which checks in at the No. 2 all-time mark at Wisconsin behind Big Ten record-holder and recent graduate
Sarah Disanza.
In addition, Monson's 5000 meters performance currently leads the Big Ten Conference and ranks No. 11 in the NCAA this season.
Also racing in the 5000 meters was senior
Amy Davis, who was the runner-up with a time of 16:00.17.
Armoni Brown continued her impressive freshman season, winning the long jump with a PR leap of 20 feet, 1/2 inch.
Meagan Blair was the runner-up in the event with a 19-11 jump
Haley Lubow and
Danielle Bellino competed in the 600 meters, with Lubow taking third place with a personal best time of 1:35.28 and Bellino finishing fourth finishing with a time of 1:37.04.
Mariah Hoepner kept the hot streak alive for the Wisconsin freshmen, taking third in the high jump with a clearance of 5-5 3/4. Hoepner also took 11th in the preliminary heat of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.42 seconds.Â
Five Badgers competed in the preliminary heat of the 60 meter dash.
Ebony McClendon came in sixth place in the race, sprinting to a finish of 7.61 seconds.
Gabby DesRosiers came in ninth place, finishing with a time of 7.73 seconds. McClendon posted a qualifying time in the event and will compete tomorrow in the final heat.
Hannah Wilson,
Meagan Blair and
Armoni Brown also competed in the preliminary heat of the 60 meters, all finishing in the top 15. Wilson came through with a time of 7.83 while her teammates finished right behind her, with Blair getting a time of 7.88 and Brown cruising through in 7.90.
In the 200 meter dash, three Badger sprinters finished within the top-10.
Gabby DesRosiers took sixth place, stunting a time of 24.64 while
Ebony McClendon finished her lap around the track in 24.71, putting her in seventh place.
Bianca Stubler took ninth place with a 24.97 finish while freshman
Morgan Parzych finished with a time of 25.63 and
Hannah Wilson clocked in at 25.66 seconds.
The Indiana Relays action continues for Wisconsin on Saturday, Jan. 26 in Bloomington. The action starts at 8 a.m. (CT) with the women's pentathlon 60 meter hurdles and field events to follow at 8:35 a.m.
