Wisconsin overcomes pouring rain and tough competition in New Jersey
PRINCETON, N.J.– The Wisconsin men's rowing had an excellent triple-showing at the Princeton Chase this weekend.
Three Badger varsity eight squads (A boat, B boat, C boat) competed in the varsity heavyweight eight race on Sunday morning with all crews placing in the top-25 of the 52-team field in round one.Â

Wisconsin's A boat led the way with a fourth-place finish in a time of 13:12.201. The Badgers B-boat was not far behind finishing in 13:32.029 to earn 14th place. Finally, UW's C-boat earned 23rd place in a time of 13:55.918, beating out the rest of the competitive Princeton Chase field.
Some crews came into the day knowing they would race in just the first round, but UW raced in both, with its A boat taking third in round 2, while B finishing eighth and C placing 13th in a race that included 24 entries.

On the heavyweight eights:
"Today's poor weather and the quick turnaround from last weekend's Head of the Charles didn't affect the guys and they were significantly better than last week."

"At the very top, these teams are a little more physical than we are and that we can work on. It is coming."
"The constituency of the first eight is made up of three sophomores. One, Galen Quinn from Chicago was rowing at four. Owen Lilleleht from Madison West High School was up at two seat and at six seat we had Breck Duncan from Brookfield Central. He is starting his 11 month rowing and he's rowing in the varsity eight at six, which is arguably the most important spot of the boat and doing a tremendous job, so his upside is dramatic. There was actually 10 sophomores on this trip out of 24. The freshmen are doing equally as well, but they have their own schedule. I'm really excited to integrate them more come Texas [training].Â
"Our race was excellent and it was a good turnout. We're used to competing in inclement weather situations and allowed us to focus and put our head down. We handled the weekend as best as we possibly could, which is nice to into the next month of training"
