Badgers looking to win 14th Big Ten Championship
MADISON, Wis. - The No. 7 Wisconsin women's cross country team is on the road this weekend, competing in the Big Ten Conference Championship on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. The Big Ten Championships will feature all 14 Big Ten women's cross country teams. The women's 6,000 meter race is set to start at 10:45 a.m. (CT) on the Ohio State Golf Country Club.
The meet will air live on FloTrack and BTN+ with live results available on PT Timing. Fans can follow the action on Instagram and Twitter (@BadgerTrackXC) and catch a recap following the meet on UWBadgers.com.
1. AMAZING ALICIA: Last week, Alicia Monson was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and Big Ten Athlete of the Week after defending her individual title at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. This is the third time in her career and the second time this season that the five-time All American and 2019 NCAA Champion in the indoor 5000 meters has earned a weekly cross country honor from the Big Ten.Â
2. CHASING HISTORY: The Badgers are looking to improve on their third-place team finish from last year and win their 14th Big Ten championship this weekend. The Badgers currently hold the most titles on the women's side at 13 despite having not won the meet since 2000. Monson looks to defend her 2018 individual title at the championships where she became the first UW individual champion since Bethany Brewster in 2001 and captured UW's 11th individual title.
3. RANKED RUNNERS: The USTFCCCA released national and regional coaches poll last week, placing Wisconsin at No. 7 nationally and No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region after the Badgers placed fourth in an impressive field at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Three-time defending champion Michigan is eighth and Michigan State is ranked ninth.
4. MACK'S MINUTE: "The goals for this team from the very beginning from preseason camp was to have a great championship portion of the season and that starts for us on Sunday. This women's team wants to win. It's an incredible field, we have to go through some amazing teams but we are going to be putting our best foot forward out there to try to bring back another trophy which would be exciting for our ladies… We've been waiting for November all year, this is the only month that matters, until we hit 2020" – Head Coach Mackenzie Wartenberger Â
5. UP NEXT:Â The Badgers host the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 15 at Zimmer Championship Course. The women are set to race at 12 p.m. (CT) for the right to compete in the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The meet will air live on FloTrack and BTN+ with live results available on PT Timing. Fans can follow the action on Instagram and Twitter (@BadgerTrackXC) and catch a recap following the meet on UWBadgers.com.
