Duo helped Wisconsin clinch Big Ten regular-season title
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer duo of Jordyn Bloomer and Claire Shea each earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors after helping the No. 7 Badgers clinch the Big Ten championship last weekend, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
Bloomer earned her second Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week award of the season, while Shea earned her first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week nod this year.
Last Thursday, Bloomer became just the sixth UW goalkeeper to earn 10 or more shutouts in a season thanks to UW's 1-0 win at Illinois that clinched a share of the Big Ten title for the Badgers. Bloomer followed up that performance on Sunday by stopping four shots and leading UW to a 3-1 win over Northwestern and the outright Big Ten crown.
A native of Hartland, Bloomer's 10 shutouts this year are tied for the Big Ten lead. Her save percentage of .862 also leads the league.
After helping UW earn its 10th shutout of the season, Shea made her first collegiate goal count by launching a rocket into the top of the net from 40 yards out to give UW a 3-1 win over Northwestern and the 2019 Big Ten title.
A preseason All-Big Ten selection, Shea has one goal and two assists for the Cardinal and White this year.
The No. 7 Badgers wrap up their regular season on Wednesday with a showdown with Ohio State. Kickoff at McClimon is set for 3 p.m. and admission is free.
