MADISON Wis. – After ending the regular season with the Big Ten Champions title and a No. 7 national ranking, eleven members of the Wisconsin women's soccer program were honored by the Big Ten Conference on Thursday.
Four Badgers headlined the honors, including
Paula Wilkins being recognized as Coach of the Year,
Dani Rhodes as Forward of the Year, Camyrn Biegalski as Defender of the Year, and
Jordyn Bloomer as Goalkeeper of the Year.
Wilkins has led the Badgers to a 14-2-2 record, including a 10-0-1 record in Big Ten play, the first undefeated record in league play since 2012. Wilkins coaching career at UW has now brought her to 148 overall wins and 80 Big Ten wins. This marks Wilkins' second Big Ten Coach of the Year award at Wisconsin and her seventh overall.
Rhodes became the first Badger to be named Forward of the Year. Rhodes has had a career high season, finishing the regular season with 26 points, consisting of 11 goals and four assists. She is ranked No. 4 in school history in goals with 36 career goals and ranked No. 6 in the country, leading the Big Ten in game-winners. Along with her Big Ten Forward of the Year honor, Rhodes was a first-team All-Big Ten selection, her third time being named to Big Ten teams.
Biegalski has also made UW history, becoming the first Badger to be named Defender of the Year. The Lombard, Illinois native has started nearly every game of her career, playing a prominent role on defense as UW had 10 shutouts this year and held opponents to 0.48 goals per game. Biegalski also earned a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team.
Bloomer has had quite the season for the Badgers, earning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week twice and now clinching the Goalkeeper of the Year award. This marks the third time in school history UW has earned the Goalkeeper of the Year award. The junior has logged 10 shutouts this year, becoming the sixth Badger goalkeeper to have 10 or more shutouts in a season. She has also been named to the first-team All-Big Ten squad.
Junior
Maia Cella garnered her first All-Big Ten honor of her career, landing a spot on the first-team All Big-Ten squad. Cella has been an asset for the Badgers on midfield, starting all 18 games this season.
Cameron Murtha,
Lauren Rice, and
Claire Shea were awarded All-Big Ten Third-Team honors, marking each of their second times being named to Big Ten teams.
Forward Murtha has had a stellar season for the Badgers, scoring seven goals and four assists this season.
Rice, who was previously named All Big-Ten Freshman Team in 2017, has played a key role in midfield, posting two goals and six assists in her 18 starts this season.
Shea was just named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the week after her first collegiate goal against Northwestern helped UW win the 2019 outright Big Ten title.
Freshman
Emma Jaskaniec and
Macy Monticello earned spots on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Jaskaniec earns the recognition after being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week following her game-winning goal against Penn State in October, which doubled as her first collegiate goal.
Monticello, a defender from Arlington, Virginia, has been a crucial member of the Badgers backline, helping UW to 10 shutouts and posting an assist while starting all 18 games for the Cardinal and White.
