Kalynuk, Gorniak score first goals of season
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The No. 7 Badger men's hockey team (4-4-0, 0-2-0 Big Ten) fell for the second time this weekend at No. 12 Penn State (6-1-0, 2-0-0 Big Ten), dropping a 4-2 game at Pegula Ice Arena.
Sophomore forward Jack Gorniak got the Badgers head in the first period with his first of the season, then junior captain Wyatt Kalynuk scored his first of the season late in the second period to tie the game at two.
Unfortunately for Wisconsin, two goals were not enough to prevent being swept for the first time this season.
An unusual second period goal for Penn State may be the deciding factor on how this game finished out. Penn State's Alex Limoges got a friendly bounce off the corner boards after the puck was dumped into the UW zone by Penn State. Lebedeff naturally went to get the puck behind the net for his defensemen, but the bounce set up Limoges perfectly for an empty net and the go-ahead goal.
An empty-net goal from Penn State sealed the Badgers' fate.
