MADISON, Wis. – Abby Roque became only the eighth Wisconsin women's hockey player to tally 100 career assists in the No. 2 Badgers' 5-3 win at St. Cloud State on Friday night.Â
Sophomore Sophie Shirley put the Badgers (13-1-1-0, 7-1-1-0 WCHA) on the board first with a backhander just six minutes into the game, netting one past the Huskies (3-9-1, 0-5-0 WCHA) off a pass by junior Daryl Watts and Roque.
Watts scored herself ten minutes later off to give UW a two-goal lead heading into the first intermission.Â
Heading into the second, sophomore Britta Curl scored a third goal for the Badgers off an unlikely and awkward angle through Huskies goaltender Emma Polusny at the 15:31 mark.
Â
The Huskies came back knocking with two goals in the remainder of the second stealing an opportunity off a Badgers line change.Â
Senior captain
Mekenzie Steffen notched a power-play blue-liner just 2:30 into the third, pulling the Badgers up once again.Â
St. Cloud State tallied one final power-play goal before pulling its netminder for a 6 on 5 which Wisconsin parried, as senior
Kristen Campbell made a big save that left
Sophie Shirley with a break away down ice to slide in an empty netter.Â
Three notes of the game:
- It marks the second-straight year a Badger had joined the 100 assists club as Annie Pankowski reached it last season.Â
- Sophomore Britta Curl now has seven goals and ten points in seven games with the Huskies while sophomore Sophie Shirley now holds 11 points in seven games against SCSU.
- Wisconsin furthered its unbeaten streak against St. Cloud improving to 22 games won since Feb. 2, 2015 and outscoring the Huskies 96-13.

On hitting 100 assists:
"It's pretty cool to reach a milestone like this and be put in a class with some of the other amazing players who have done it before me. Obviously have to give credit to all the girls who I have played with since I've been here because they have been the ones putting the puck in the net."
