ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The No. 2 Wisconsin women's hockey team scored two goals in the first 2:19 to set the tone in a 6-2 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Junior
Daryl Watts scored twice for the Badgers (14-1-1, 8-1-1-0 WCHA) while
Brette Pettet,
Abby Roque,
Sophie Shirley and
Dara Greig also scored in the series finale against the Huskies (3-10-1, 0-10-0-0 WCHA).
Pettet put the Badgers on the board 1:16 into the game with her sixth of the year before Watts doubled the UW lead a minute later.
After a SCSU power-play goal made it a 2-1 game midway through the first period, Roque scored her 13th of the year to give UW a two-goal lead heading into the first intermission.
Watts scored her second of the game and 14th of the season, tipping in a
Grace Bowlby shot, to send UW into the second intermission with a 4-1 advantage.
The Huskies scored 20 seconds into the third period, but Shirley and Greig tacked on goals to put the game out of reach.
Kristen Campbell improved to 13-1-1 on the season after making 13 saves on Saturday.
Three Notes of the Game
- Wisconsin extended its winning streak against St. Cloud State to 23 games, a streak that dates back to the 2015-16 season.
- Watts now has 40 points in 16 games this year after a six-point weekend against the Huskies. She leads the country with an average of 2.50 points per game.
- Wisconsin is now averaging 5.25 goals per game, the nation's best mark.
