5 Things to Know: UCF Challenge

Badgers tee of the spring season in the Sunshine State

MADISON, Wis. —  The Wisconsin women's golf opens up spring play at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida for its first event of 2019, Feb. 3-5 at the Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Here are five things to know before the team tees off:

1. Last time out: The Badgers haven't hit the links since late October when senior Jessica Reinecke led the UW to an eighth place finish at the 2018 Cardinal Cup. Reinecke placed in the top-30 individually with a 54-hole performance of 230 (+14)

2. Challenge Format:  The UCF Challenge is a 54-hole stroke play event hosted by the University of Central Florida at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. The challenge is viewed as one of the strongest fields of players and teams of the collegiate season. Eagle Creek itself is a notable course, playing host to the PGA Pro-Pro Series tournament in 2005 and the 2006 Florida Open.

3. The Traveling Badgers: UW will travel senior Jessica Reinecke, senior Tess Hackworthy, sophomore Claire Fitzgerald and freshmen Tracy Lee and Gabrielle Tomeo. Junior Eloise Healey will play as an individual.

4. The Competition:  The Badgers will face host UCF, Tulane, SMU, Iowa St., ECU, ODU, Penn State, Vanderbilt, College of Charleston, Illinois, Kent State, Michigan State, Kennesaw State, Miami and Purdue.

5. Thoughts from Coach Oehrlein:
"The break between the fall and spring semesters is an important time for growth and development.  So it's always exciting to get started in the spring and gauge where we're at."

"The tournament at UCF is a strong field and is an opportunity for us to move forward."

"I feel that we have players that are ready to take a jump from where they were in the fall.  We'll need consistency throughout the weekend and contribution from everyone."
