Five things to know: Big Ten Indoor Championships

No. 12 Wisconsin women’s track team begins championship season in Ann Arbor
MADISON, Wis. – The No. 12 Wisconsin women's track team travels to Ann Arbor to compete in their first meet of championship season. The Michigan Wolverines will host the Big Ten Championships at the University of Michigan Indoor Track Building on Friday, February 22nd and Saturday, February 23rd.
The Big Ten championships are scheduled to begin on Friday, February 22 with the heptathlon 60 meter dash and on Saturday, February 23 with the heptathlon 60 meter hurdles.

The 2019 Big Ten Indoor Championships will be streamed live on FloTrack and on BTN Plus. In addition a tape-delayed broadcast will air on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 4:30 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.Â

1. LAST YEAR AT BIG TENS: Last year at the conference championship, Amy Davis and Alicia Monson ran the 3000 meters and took second and third place, respectively, in the distance event. Â Additionally, Davis, Monson, and Shaelyn Sorensen all finished in the top-eight in the 5K. Banke Oginni was the Big Ten runner-up in the shot put and took sixth in weight throw, while Gabby DesRosiers, Bianca Stubler, Haley Lubow and Hannah Wilson took 11th in the 4x400.
2. MOVING ON UP: After an impressive weekend at the Red and White Classic and Alex Wilson Invitational, the Wisconsin women's track team moved up into the top-15 of the USTFCCCA rankings. The Badgers were previously ranked No. 22 but jumped up ten spots to No. 12 after their impressive outings.
3. OGINNI MAKES HISTORY: On Friday at the Red and White Classic, Banke Oginni set a school record in the weight throw after having a 73 feet, 3 ¼ inch throw, good for No. 5 in the NCAA. She broke Olympian Kelsey Card's record of 72-7 3/4 (22.14m). Oginni's throw currently ranks No. 5 in the NCAA this season and No. 3 in the Big Ten Conference.
4. DYNAMITE DMR: On Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational, The women's quartet of Alissa Niggemann, Gabby DesRosiers, Bianca Stubler and Alicia Monson posted a huge performance in the distance medley relay, finishing with an overall time of 10:59.72, becoming the first UW squad to break the 11-minute mark in the DMR. The squad demolished the previous school record, a record that was set by Jenni Westphal, Markesha McWilliams, Janet Westphal and Kathy Butler in 1996, by almost ten seconds.Â
5. UP NEXT: To continue championship season, qualifying athletes from the Wisconsin women's track team will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
