AMES, Iowa - In the first day of competition at the Iowa State Classic, the Wisconsin women's track and field distance runners had all of the fun, shining on Friday at the Lied Recreation Center. Â

Amy Davis, the senior from Madison, won the women's 5000 meters invitational with a time of 15 minutes, 47.80 seconds. The senior captain grabbed the lead with a few laps to go and never looked back en route to a two-second win over conference-rival Margaret Allen of Indiana.
Davis' time, a season-best mark, ranks 15th in the NCAA this year and second in the Big Ten Conference behind teammate
Alicia Monson, who owns the league's best mark of 15:34.53.
Shaelyn Sorensen also competed in the women's invitational 5000 meters, placing 19th in 16:46.58.

Niggemann also competed in one of the premier events, finishing 11th in the women's invitational 3000 meters in 9:24.11 .

Werking competed for Wisconsin and ran in the 5000 meters.
Werking took
20th place, finishing with a time of 17:05.70.

Action continues for the Wisconsin women's track and field team Saturday afternoon with the mile.
