Senior is joined by Trice and Iverson on conference awards list
MADISON, Wis. – Senior Ethan Happ has made a career of doing things no player in Wisconsin history has done. On Monday, he added yet another prestigious entry to his crowded mantle of awards, becoming the first three-time, first-team All-Big Ten honoree in school history.
Since the Big Ten started designating first-team all-conference honorees in 1948, Happ becomes just the 13th player to earn a trio of first-team All-Big Ten accolades. He is the first to accomplish this feat since Purdue's Robbie Hummel in 2008, 2010 and 2012.
Over the last 18 seasons, Wisconsin players have earned 16 first-team All-Big Ten honors. That is three more than any other team in the conference.
Happ, who also earned first-team accolades in 2017 and 2018, has saved his best for last. Averaging 17.8 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game, Happ is the nation's only player averaging at least 16.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg and 4.0 apg.
A native of Milan, Illinois, Happ is tied for the Big Ten lead and ranks third in the NCAA with a school-record 21 double-doubles. He ranks 5th in the Big Ten in scoring, 3rd in rebounding, 3rd in assists, 12th in blocks, 15th in steals, 10th in field goal percentage and 5th in assist-to-turnover ratio.
A year after missing most the 2017-18 season with a broken foot, sophomore D'Mitrik Trice bounced back to earn honorable mention All-Big Ten honors. Trice is second on the Badgers, averaging 11.9 points per game while shooting 40.6 percent from 3-point range and boasting a team-high 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Senior Khalil Iverson was recognized with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Wisconsin begins postseason play this week as the No. 4 seed at the 2019 Big Ten Tournament. The Badgers will face either Maryland, Nebraska or Rutgers on Friday at 2 p.m. (CT).
