UW improves to 3-0 in Big Ten action after 6-1 win at Rutgers
EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Wisconsin women's tennis team improved to 3-0 in Big Ten Conference action after a 6-1 win over Rutgers on Sunday afternoon at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
UW (10-2) took a 1-0 lead after the doubles duo of Ava Markham and Melissa Pick earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Christina Zordani and Sara Castellano clinched the point for the Cardinal and White with a 7-6 win at the No. 3 slot.
No. 73 Lexi Keberle took care of business at No. 2 singles, dispatching Rutgers' Tess Fisher 6-2, 6-2 while Maryann Rompf also earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Kristiana Zahare.
Castellano sealed the deal for the Badgers with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles against Kat Muzik. The senior, who is ranked No. 36 in the country, is now 11-0 in singles action this dual season.
Anna Makarova and Markham also picked up three-set wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles slots, respectively.
Up next:
Wisconsin continues its road swing with a pair of matches in Florida this week. UW takes on FAU on Tuesday in a 9 a.m. CT contest before facing Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT. The two matches in Florida mark the Badgers' final non-conference tilts of the 2019 spring season.
