
Fifty-four Badgers named to Academic All-Big Ten team

Student-athletes honored for academic excellence
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of March 1 for winter sports, who have been enrolled fulltime at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Among the recipients are Beata Nelson, the 2019 Big Ten Women's Swimmer of the Championship after winning three conference titles. The junior from Madison is majoring in psychology.

All-Big Ten pick and second-team All-American Ethan Happ from the men's basketball team also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as a graduate student majoring in education leadership and policy analysis.

Wyatt Kalynuk from men's hockey was named to the team while also earning second-team All-Big Ten honors. The sophomore from Virden, Manitoba, is majoring in communication arts.

NCAA qualifiers MJ Mao and Cameron Tysoe from the men's swimming and diving team were honored. Mao is a sophomore majoring in education studies while Tysoe is a junior majoring in economics and political science.

Three starters from the Badger women's basketball team were recognized – sophomore Niya Beverley, fifth-year senior Kelly Karlis and junior Kendra Van Leeuwen.

Sophomore Evan Wick from the wrestling team earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and will also be competing in the NCAA championships this weekend.
